About Negritoo.
Negritoo (born in 1975, in São Paulo) is a Brazilian visual artist whose creative journey began in design and illustration. Graduated in Industrial Design from Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie and holding a postgraduate degree in Design from Universidade SENAC, he found in street art, starting in 2016, a new expressive path — a reconnection with his inner universe and the vibrant aesthetics of public space.
Inspired by the feminine figures of his childhood and his Afro-Brazilian roots, Negritoo develops a body of work that celebrates the feminine and explores themes such as ancestry, identity, spirituality, and memory. His transition to traditional painting allowed for a deeper dive into Afro-diasporic narratives, constructing symbolic images that articulate affection, social critique, and resistance. With intense color palettes, stylized lines, and elements of pop culture, his compositions question the impact of the African diaspora and the historical erasures surrounding Black experiences in Brazil.
His visual research is marked by a desire to reclaim ancestral memory and explore the subjective layers of contemporary Black experience. Navigating between figuration and affective abstraction, Negritoo creates symbolic portraits and scenes imbued with critique and sensitivity.
